Will I have to do military training?

Yes.

Basic Recruit Training


Unless you have previous military experience, when you join the TA you will have to undergo basic recruit training. This consists of a number of training weekends and midweek drill nights.

During this stage you will learn basic soldiering skills according to the TA Common Military Syllabus. This covers areas as diverse as how to wear your uniform, physical fitness, weapon handling, first aid, fieldcraft, map reading and military terminology.

Yes.

Pay


You will be paid for every rehearsal and every Band engagement.

You will also be paid for your travel from your home address to the TA centre and the return journey.

Audition


You will be expected to sit in with the Band during a rehearsal.

After the rehearsal, at a one to one session, the Bandmaster may ask you to play any or all of the following:

Some major and minor scales.

A prepared piece of your own choice.

A piece of music as a test of sight reading.
